Acne Cyst Treatment

An acne cyst is one of the more severe types of acne. This occurs when acne forms a cyst which is filled with pus. Cystic acne can result to serious scars on the skin particularly if the puss is picked or squeezed from the cyst. In addition, this is the most painful kind of acne and the one that can cause the most amount of scarring.

Acne cyst treatment involves a set of procedures that are similar to those used in curing other types of this skin condition such as pimples and lesions. The first procedure is to cleanse the acne-prone skin daily. An individual should find a cleanser that is mild and will not dry the skin. The right amount of oils are needed by the skin, and too little of it may result to additional problems. According to dermatologists and other health specialists, people should not use standard bath soaps as cleansers.

Next, an individual has to use a product that contains benzoyl peroxide, which is the most effective ingredient to treat acne cysts. In using a specific treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, he needs to begin with a small dose and observe how his body reacts to it. He can then steadily increase the dosage until he has found the suitable amount for his skin.

If the acne cyst of an individual is so severe that it cannot be cured by the said procedures, he can consult a dermatologist who can prescribe a drug called isotretinoin. This drug is ingested orally one or two times a day for four to five months. Isotretinoin makes oil glands smaller so that considerably less oil will be produced on the skin. Consequently, it decreases bacteria growth and eliminates the cyst.
